Community Organizing 101 Workshop

Workshop Leaders:
Mark is the Deputy Director of Economic Development for Wayne County, Michigan. He’s a leader in business attraction, community development, and environmental justice and sustainability there. Additionally, his role serves all 43 of Wayne County’s communities. Before DREAM, Mark worked in digital strategy and community organizing at Chicago’s Inner-City Muslim Action Network, Obama 2012, and MoveOn, where he built a $5M, 15-person department.
Hazel has served as a curriculum developer, trainer, and mentor with a cohort of Muslim community organizers who worked on a comprehensive community organizing and leadership development program for Muslims nationwide in which an Islamic framework is core to the curriculum. Striving to be a better community servant, Hazel also dedicates her time as a volunteer, advisor, and board member to various nonprofits ranging from community development and convert care to anti-racism work and bail reform. Additionally, as a labor of love, she serves as a faith-based community organizing advisor with Dream of Detroit.
