How To Talk To Your Neighbors: Canvassing 101
Together, we’re getting into the nitty gritty.
It seems that every other day now we are learning of new threats coming down on our communities. And even if many of us feel inclined to do something about it, very few people ever make it as far as their neighbor’s front door.
So, on Monday, October 5th, at 6pm, we’re coming together to learn how to build with the people closest to us: our neighbors. Whether it’s starting your own neighborhood block club or getting your community engaged in local elections, no one of us can do it alone. First, we’ll learn about how our communities have used door-knocking and deep canvassing strategies to build grassroots power and achieve historic wins. Then, we’ll put our own skills to the test. Together, we will overcome our fears and discomforts, challenge biases, and build collective resistance.
Come to the UM Detroit Center ready to learn and put your own conversation skills with strangers to practice. Dinner will be provided, all you have to do is show up.
Who Is This For?
This training opportunity is open to all. Whether you’re a community member who is hoping to run for office someday, a long-time volunteer with DREAM, or simply a curious neighbor, we’ll be covering it all. As long as you are eager to be a change-maker, in whatever capacity, this gathering is for you.
