As the month of Ramadan quickly approaches, we want to invite you to donate your zakat to Dream of Detroit.
Each year, community members turn to Dream of Detroit for that little bit of help they might need to make rent in a slow month, keep on top of their bills between jobs, or dig out of debts that have accumulated during emergencies.
A companion of the Prophet Muhammad, Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “During the month of Shaban, the Muslims would devote themselves to the mushafs and recite from them. They used to distribute the zakat from their wealth in order to support the weak and poor for the upcoming Ramadan.” (Lataif al-Ma’arif, pg. 135)
At DREAM, we do faith-inspired work meant to help everyone in our community, regardless of background. Local scholars have deemed our work eligible to receive zakat because it assists those in poverty, those in need, those whose hearts are to be reconciled, and the cause of God, but we often pass through zakat donations directly to community members, especially during the month of Ramadan.
It’s our honor to be able to help, and it’s because our community members trust us to be good stewards of their donations.
If you’re able, please consider donating (even a portion of) your zakat to Dream of Detroit now.

P.S. If you’ve already allocated your zakat or don’t need to, we still encourage you to support our campaign to build The DREAM Center. It’ll be our first purpose-built office, pop-up space, digital literacy center, and community courtyard. We look forward to welcoming you to it one day inshaAllah!
